The chemical name of toos is n-ethyl-n - (2-hydroxy-3-sulfopropyl) - 3-methylaniline sodium salt. It is a kind of chemical intermediate with white crystal powder and water-soluble reagent. It is a common color reagent in the new Trinder's reagent. It is mainly used for the quantitative determination of uric acid (UA) in human serum, plasma or urine by catalase spectrophotometry. It is characterized by good water solubility, high sensitivity and strong stability.

The new Trinder's reagent is a highly water-soluble aniline derivative, which is widely used in diagnostic detection and biochemical tests. In the colorimetric determination of hydrogen peroxide activity, it has several advantages over conventional chromogenic reagents.
The new Trinder's reagent is stable enough to be used in both solution and test line detection system. In the presence of hydrogen peroxide and peroxidase, the new Trinder's reagent can form a very stable purple or blue dye in the chemical book in the process of oxidative coupling reaction with 4-aminoantipyrine (4-AA) or 3-methylbenzothiazolylsulfonylhydrazone (MBTH). The molar absorptivity of the dye coupled with MBTH is 1.5-2 times higher than that of the dye coupled with 4-AA; however, 4-AA solution is more stable than MBTH solution. The substrate is enzymatically oxidized by its oxidase to produce hydrogen peroxide. The concentration of hydrogen peroxide corresponds to the substrate concentration. Therefore, the amount of substrate can be determined by the color reaction of oxidative coupling reaction.
Glucose, alcohol, acyl coenzyme A and cholesterol can be used to detect those substrates coupled with the new Trinder's reagent and 4-AA. There are 10 kinds of new Trinder's reagents, of which toos is the most commonly used. However, for specific substrates, it is necessary to test different kinds of new Trinder's reagents to develop the best detection system.
It should be noted that toos itself is reductive. Although peroxidase is used in the detection, it is catalysed by the enzyme. Without the enzyme, the oxygen in the air may be oxidized slowly when the solution is prepared according to different conditions. The chromogen substrate produced by Desheng is pure white powder. It should be prepared and used immediately after the solution is prepared. It will be oxidized and discolored slowly if it contacts with air for a long time.
