Tris is called trishydroxymethylaminomethane, also called tromethamine, with CAS number 77-86-1, and its appearance is white crystalline powder. It is soluble in ethanol and water. It also dissolves with ethyl acetate but is relatively slow. It does not react with ether or carbon tetrachloride. It is corrosive to copper and aluminum.
