Taps, n-tris (hydroxymethyl) methyl-3-aminopropanesulfonic acid, is a member of the good's buffer family. It is a kind of amphoteric buffer widely used in biochemistry and molecular biology. It is often used as a buffer for the separation of dyes in planar chromatography and for the purification of enzymes in ion exchange chromatography.

Chromatography is a laboratory technique, usually used to separate and purify proteins. In this process, the separation ability of the system is directly related to the change of pH.
