2. It does not stimulate lymphocytes by itself.
3. It basically does not affect the lymphocyte stimulation rate induced by non-specific stimulants (phytohemagglutinin), antigens (tuberculin) or mixed allogeneic cultures.


Compared with another bicarbonate buffer commonly used in cell culture, it provides greater buffering capacity in the physiological range of pH. Therefore, even in very crowded cultures, HEPES buffered medium can maintain a constant pH value, ensuring better cell survival and stimulation. PHA-induced lymphocytes were observed to produce great stimulation in HEPES buffered cultures in the pH range of 7.4-7.6.
