Bicine is an amino acid derivative, weakly acidic, pH buffer range is 7.6-9.0, soluble in water and commonly used organic solvents such as DMF, DMSO, DMAc, etc.When powdered bicine is formulated into a solution, sodium hydroxide is usually added to adjust the pH value to meet the pH environmental requirements required for the experiment or detection.If the experimental environment needs to exclude the interference of sodium ions, potassium hydroxide can be used instead of sodium hydroxide, and then the pH is measured by a pH meter to adjust the mixing ratio of Bicine solution and alkali solution.

Similar to the working principle of other biological buffers, Bicine plays a buffering role when acid and base are added into the reaction system or when the pH of the reaction environment changes as the reaction proceeds. It maintains the pH value of the reaction system, which is intuitively important when enzymes or proteins and accounting are involved in the biochemical detection. The molecular structure of Bicne is similar to that of glycine. The hydrogen on the amino nitrogen atom is replaced by two hydroxyethyl groups, which reduces the hydrolysis ability of the amino terminal and enhances its stability. At the same time, Bicne has the properties of amino acid and aminoethanol and can be used as a monoanion.

(Bic-) forms metal complexes.The buffer system prepared with Bicine and sodium hydroxide will not participate in the chemical reaction of the reaction system, and will not interfere with the experimental reaction. It is resistant to chemical action and enzymatic hydrolysis.
